Employability was an ambiguous concept a decade ago; however, it nowadays plays a vital role in labour market policies. The concept of employability describes the objectives of the economic strategies promoted by important supranational institutions and labour market policy at national, regional and local levels. The concept of employability is continuously being used in several contexts and has a range of meanings. One of the common definitions is related to the individual’s employability skills and attributes and is closely associated with the employers’ sustainability agenda. Currently, there are increasing concerns on skills shortages to fulfil important positions, particularly at the high skills level. Generally, the skills shortage is not only confined to specialised technical skills; it also includes behavioural as well as personal skills and attributes. In other words, these too can be termed transferable skills. The study involved information and communication technology (ICT) graduates and employers. The aim of this study is to identify how far transferable skills are important in ICT graduates job placement or job profile. In addition, the study obtains response from employers on the need of transferable skills in hiring workers. The study has confirmed the importance of transferable skills for graduates’ employability, specifically in producing ‘sustainable workers’.
